'Get Me Roger Stone' traces GOP strategist's influence from Nixon to Trump

'Get Me Roger Stone' traces GOP strategist's influence from Nixon to Trump”

The Trump administration can't keep its story straight.

So when President Donald Trump, in a sensational turn on Tuesday night, axed FBI Director James Comey, trained eyes turned to Stone. Stone told Fox News there can be no comparison between the two scandals because unlike in 1973, the Comey firing came at a time where there is "no evidence" of wrongdoing.

While Stone was jubilant, Politico reports that "shock dominated much of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the White House".

But in an interview with ABC's "The View" Friday morning, Stone said he had spoken to Trump "very recently". "Have not spoken to Roger in a long time - had nothing to do with my decision", read the president's 5:57 a.m. tweet about a CNN report claiming Stone influenced Trump's decision to fire Comey.

When asked how he would respond to a White House official saying it had been months, Stone replied "that would be incorrect".

Stone hedged on Behar's question, insisting he "wouldn't comment on it" one way or another, before insisting he speaks with the president occasionally, but "not everyday".

Moreover, according to Politico and CNN, Stone lobbied Trump to make the move.

"They have to remain confidential", Stone told "The View".

Stone said he would "welcome a special prosecutor" to examine any collusion between high-ranking Trump aides and Russian Federation, explaining that Attorney General Jeff Sessions' "partisanship" makes him "the wrong person to pursue this".

"It's important to remember that Roger was literally the first person to put the idea into Trump's head to run for the presidency back in 1987", Pehme said. "I think the president did the right thing". "I don't think there's anything here".

Stone was on hand to discuss the Netflix documentary about his political life, "Get Me Roger Stone", when the topic veered off into uncharted territory to discuss his famous tattoo of former President Richard Nixon.
