Alex Iwobi: 'Winning Champions League group is big advantage'

Alex Iwobi: 'Winning Champions League group is big advantage'”

A Lucas Perez hat-trick helped the Gunners home in Switzerland, meaning they will avoid Barcelona and Monaco, the two sides that have eliminated them in the past two seasons, as well as Atletico Madrid and Napoli.

"It's hard to know", Wenger told British broadcaster BT Sport, when asked if it was better to finish top.

"It is hard to know [who they will get] but you feel a bit less guilty if you have a bad draw if you finish first rather than second", he said.

The ball was in the back of the net in quick succession as the Gunners took a 2-0 lead within 16 minutes through Lucas.

Perez was starting just his fifth game since his summer move from Deportivo La Coruna and showed why Wenger brought him with a well-taken treble.

Arsenal were incisive and consistently unsafe on a freezing and misty night in Switzerland, with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil constantly linking - Sanchez's delightful pass finding Ozil, who fed Iwobi from the left for the fourth.

Still, the 28-year-old forward scored his first Champions League goal in the eighth minute and scored in nearly identical fashion eight minutes later.

Iwobi then finished from close range. "He scored over 20 goals in Spain and that is never a coincidence", Wenger said in an interview with BT Sport.

The Nigerian couldn't really miss following Mesut Ozil's fine assist and he was happy for the German to take the plaudits.

And he suggested the Gunners did not dominate West Ham at the weekend, despite the fact Alexis Sanchez struck a hat-trick to seal a 5-1 victory over their London rivals.

It's make or break time, but our last 2 performances were much improved and I keep saying this - we have a huge squad, which if managed correctly, should be able to get us through the tough months in a good fighting position.

All eyes will now be on next Monday's draw, where Arsene Wenger's men will learn their fate and hope they get lucky with their opponent.

Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi says he is pleased to have finally scored his first goal of the season.

Manchester City ended their group campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Celtic, having recovered from an early blow inflicted by one of their own on-loan players.
