Expect Possible Severe Weather For Most Of Monday Afternoon

The 22News Storm Team has declared Monday to be a Weather Alert Day in anticipation for possible strong or severe storms this afternoon into early evening.

Powerful thunderstorms are already rolling into the Bay State with a warning issued for the Boston area from 4-8 p.m., the National Weather Service tells the Herald.

The storm moved at 45 miles per hour and had 60 miles per hour wind gusts according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said hail damage to cars and wind damage to roofs, siding and trees is likely.

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast for today, particularly after 2 p.m. Also, they should "find shade if possible ... and try to spend time in air conditioning".

"Wait at least 30 minutes until the storm passes to resume outdoor activities". But Monday is going to be hot with tempertatures in the low 90s and the humidty is going to push the heat index into the upper 90s toward 100.

More generally, our basic forecast for the week hasn't changed - we'll get rain today, maybe Friday, maybe Sunday, but it won't be enough to ease our drought. Clear overnight with a low around 63.
